Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. launched a new expedited transpacific service that called The Northwest Seaport Alliance’s (NWSA) Husky Terminal on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

The ZIM Southeast Asia E-commerce Express (ZX2) focuses on transporting time-sensitive cargo, dedicating seven sprinter vessels to quickly move cargo across the Pacific. The ZX2 will serve the growing Southeast Asia market offering shippers more options to move goods through our gateway.

Port of Tacoma Commission President and NWSA Co-Chair Dick Marzano is glad to welcome the vessel Jackson Bay with the new service. “We have recently upgraded Husky Terminal, investing $250 million in modernization projects that include strengthening and realigning the berth and adding eight new super-post-Panamax cranes. Investments such as this and the Terminal 5 modernization in the Seattle Harbor are adding critical capacity and living wage jobs in our gateway.”

The ZX2 joins several new services calling NWSA since the beginning of 2021. NWSA is well-positioned with additional terminal capacity which allows shippers to minimize the congestion delays along the West Coast. The gateway offers on-dock rail facilities and minimum rail dwell times to most inland locations making the NWSA attractive to new services. 

The NWSA gateway, which includes the marine cargo operations of the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, offers critical advantages to the west coast supply chain. Poised to increase cargo volumes through the gateway, NWSA continues to partner with businesses, labor and members of the supply chain. Strategic infrastructure investment such as Husky Terminal and Terminal 5 will serve international cargo movement for years to come.
