2023 PIDP Grant Application - Husky Terminal Expansion Part One

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) is seeking Maritime Administration grant funding for a coordinated series of improvements to the Husky Terminal at the Port of Tacoma. The Project, titled Husky Terminal Expansion Part One, will densify a busy terminal, triple its reefer capacity, and improve internal circulation. The Project will add jobs and reduce carbon emissions, benefiting agricultural exporters as well as the historically disadvantaged communities around the terminal.

Husky Terminal, located in the Tacoma Tideflats, is surrounded by a historically disadvantaged community that will benefit from both lower emissions and new jobs. This Project will support the PIDP program’s goals of improving the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the movement of goods through the Port. The Project will add capacity and optimize container storage while reducing carbon emissions by shortening vessel stays at berth (and therefore reducing the energy needed to power them at berth) and improving truck routing on the terminal.
