For its inaugural year, the North Star Awards attracted 17 nominations in 2018 from companies and organizations for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the economic and environmental vitality of the region.

“These awards recognize the great work of these businesses and the entire industry to build a strong Puget Sound gateway,” said Port of Seattle Commissioner Peter Steinbrueck. “The alliance is proud of our partnerships with industry to create new jobs and promote a competitive, innovative culture.”

As the 2018 NWSA co-chairs, Commissioners Courtney Gregoire of Port of Seattle and Don Meyer of Port of Tacoma led the North Star Award selection committee, which included members of the public and private sectors: Joel Baker, science director at University of Washington Center for Urban Waters; Joshua Berger, economic development director at Washington State Department of Commerce; Jake Nyman of Olive Group and the 2018 Tacoma Transportation Club president; and Jason Thompson of Raymond Handling and the 2018 Seattle Transportation Club president.

“We were so impressed with the quality of accomplishments from our nominees that it made for a very difficult decision,” said Meyer. “We’d like to thank all of our exceptional partners for supporting the gateway.”
