NWSA receives recognition for environmental leadership

The sustainability commitments of The Northwest Seaport Alliance have earned Inbound Logistics’ 75 Green Supply Chain Partner honors for the fourth consecutive year.

The NWSA was recognized for our proactive and collaborative partnership with our supply chain partners, stakeholders and communities throughout Puget Sound.

Through our work on the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy, diesel particulate matter (DPM) emissions intensity has decreased by 80% per ton of cargo while greenhouse gas emissions intensity declined 19% per ton of cargo since 2005. In efforts to further curb harmful emissions, the NWSA Clean Truck Program began requiring trucks on Jan. 1, 2019, with newer and cleaner engines, which reduce DPM by up to 90% per truck.

Additionally, our initiatives include energy-efficient lighting, habitat development, mitigation banking, shore power use and alternative fuel use.

The 75 organizations are selected by Inbound Logistics editors and represent various trade sectors, including ports, trucking companies, railroads, shipping lines, freight forwarders and air cargo carriers. These companies are recognized for “'walking the walk’ when it comes to commitment to supply chain sustainability, even during these difficult times.”

The NWSA is committed to improving our facilities, processes and best practices to minimize environmental impacts from our operations and create a cleaner and healthier environment for citizens and employees.

The NWSA was one of ten U.S. port authorities selected this year. The complete list of honored partners is featured in the magazine's June 2020 issue.
