NWSA Managing Members to vote on Terminal 5 Modernization Program at tomorrow’s meeting

The Managing Members of The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) will consider the lease agreements and financing necessary to proceed with modernizations at Terminal 5 at their regularly-scheduled April meeting, happening tomorrow at Sea-Tac International Airport. Details on the modernization program and lease agreements were discussed on Feb. 5, and the Managing Members voted to allow staff to begin preparing solicitations for construction on Feb. 26.

Meeting details:

  • Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 11:30 a.m.
  • The Conference Center at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, 17801 International Blvd., Seattle, WA 98158

The meeting will be streamed live at http://portal.veconnect.us/p/nwseaportalliance. Videos, agendas and minutes from both prior meetings can also be viewed at the link under the Archived Meetings header.

Terminal 5 in Seattle has long been considered a premier container cargo facility on the West Coast because of its naturally deep berth, wide footprint (185 acres) and the availability of on-dock rail yard, allowing containers to move directly from ship to rail.

The existing infrastructure on the terminal must be upgraded to accommodate the larger vessels now calling on trans-Pacific routes. The Modernization Program also offers the opportunity to enhance water and air quality by updating stormwater treatment systems and installing the infrastructure necessary to provide shore power for ships capable of plugging into electricity while at berth.
