The Port of Tacoma successfully applied for a Brownfields Cleanup Grant through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the “Parcel 132” Maritime Center cleanup project, and as part of that application invited public comment on the project and grant application. A record of that public comment is available below.
Overview:
“Parcel 132” is a brownfield in need of remediation to clean up historically contaminated soil and groundwater from past industrial/manufacturing operations at this location. This parcel is located in the northeastern most corner of the Port Maritime Center project site.
The Maritime Center project is being developed in partnership with Tacoma Public Schools and will be home to new Port business offices and the Maritime|253 skills center, providing career/technical education in the maritime and industrial trades to junior/senior level high school students throughout Pierce County at no cost.

“Parcel 132” is a Port-owned property located at 426 E. 11th St. in Tacoma. It comprises a portion of the Port Maritime Center project site (1203 E. “D” St., on the east side of the Foss Waterway, south of the Murray Morgan/11th Street Bridge).
